CODES
Codes are systems of signs that create meaning. There are two different types of categories: technical and symbolic. Technical codes are the way certain equipment is implemented to tell a story in a media text. For example, sound not working during a film. Symbolic codes show everything that we cannot see, what is beneath the surface.
CONVENTIONS
Conventions are usually ways of doing something. conventions are genre-specific. Codes and conventions are used in any study of genre. It is not enough to discuss one thing without the other. technical codes use camera work without saying how it is conventionally used in a genre.
